Gas explosion damages Philippine church, injures 1

by | 20 Jun 2016

Around 1:30 p.m. local time Monday, a gas explosion was reported at the Pines City Church of the Nazarene in Baguio City, Philippines.

One worker, Frank*, received extensive burns and has been hospitalized. A pregnant church member had just exited the room when the explosion occurred and was unhurt.

Initial reports indicate that there was possibly a gas leak from a propane bottle emitting fumes and when a worker lit the stove in the kitchen, the fumes ignited.

“It was like a grenade went off in the church,” said one of the church members. “The ceiling came down — windows and doors were blown out.”

Prayer is requested for Frank and the rest of the church family at Pines City Church of the Nazarene.

More information will be added as it becomes available.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
