Love God and Pursue opportunities to love others and lead them in a growing relationship with Christ.
Hello! My name is Sarah Huffman and I am from the United States. I grew up in Minnesota in a loving, Christian family that included my mom, dad, brother, and our two dogs. As a family, we are very close and together we love to spend time outdoors, whether that be camping and sitting around the bonfire or spending time at the lake in our boat. When I am not with my family, I also enjoy grabbing a coffee with my close friends to talk about life and have a few good laughs. These friends, as it turns out, actually played a big role in getting me to where I am today. See, though I mentioned earlier that I grew up in a Christian home, it wasn't a typical Christian home in that we didn't attend church together nor did we ever really talk about our faith. My dad attended a weekly bible study while my mom studied the bible from home. This meant that my brother and I split our time between studying with my mom and with my dad. Long story short, this system didn't work for long and soon I wasn't involved in any kind of church or bible study at all. A few years later, my friends stepped in and invited me to join them at our local Nazarene church and it truly changed my life forever. I immediately felt at home and fell in love with getting to learn about God and see people who incorporated Him into their everyday lives.
Now, years down the road, I am still attending and have since gotten involved in many events and programs there such as Children's Ministry and co-leading a few small groups as a part of the Youth Group. During this time, I have come to find just how much I enjoy helping other people of all ages grow in their relationship with Christ and that ultimately, I would like missions to be apart of my life. To me, there is nothing better than having the chance to walk along side someone and getting to help and watch them grow in their faith. However, being 18 years old, I am also aware of how much more I personally need and would like to grow in my relationship with God. With that, I decided to seek out a mission opportunity where I could begin my journey and learn under experienced missionaries as well as be able to serve them and their community.
After a little searching, I came across the perfect opportunity with Ted and Sarah Voigt, who have since invited me to join them in their mission in Wicklow, Ireland for three months. As a part of their team, I will be involved in their ministry with parents and children through parent and toddler groups, Godly Play group for children's discipleship and Christian formation, and assisting with their weekly worship gatherings. I will also be part of a community project connected to their work at Hillview Community Centre, a centre that desires to promote social inclusion in their neighborhood working with children, youth, and adults. Additionally, I will be encouraged to seek my own unique opportunities for making connections in Wicklow. Overall, I can't even begin to express how blessed I feel being given the chance to witness God working in Wicklow, as well as getting to learn under such incredible people. My hope is that I would be able to carry the experiences and insight gained from my time in Ireland with me wherever God may call me in the future.
Peace and Blessings,
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
Going Where the Church is Not Yet
Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed. Reaching these people begins with one step, a step of obedience and faithfulness that says yes to God’s call. Take your first step and start your journey toward serving in missions today.
