Teaching Activities
Milk Carton BankCollect various sizes of milk or juice cartons. Wash the cartons thoroughly. Place the cartons on a worktable in the classroom.
Let the children use the cartons to make offering banks for home. Provide art supplies such as construction paper, Con-tac paper, stickers, glue, markers, and scissors.
Encourage the children to use the bank to save money from gifts and allowances. Use this time to discuss the importance of giving offerings or tithing.
Kindness CardsHave the children make cards and give them to someone in the church. Provide art supplies such as magazines (for pictures), construction paper, glue, scissors, stickers, and markers.
Talk about the things people do to help in the church. Have the children think of different jobs people have at church. Discuss these jobs and how important they are. Encourage the children to make a card to thank one of these people for the work they do. Use this activity to discuss the importance of giving God our time and talents.
Word FindHave the children find at least 20 words in the name of the town Elijah visited (Zarephath). When the children are done, compare answers and give a reward the children with the most words. Talk about how they could find so many words from just one word. Use this example to discuss how God is able to make a lot out of the little gift from the poor widow. Remind the children that God can use their gifts to help the church and tell many people about Him.
