With a population of approximately 1,400 citizens, Oxford , Nova Scotia may best be known as the Blueberry Capital of Canada. However, what many do not know is it also boasts the oldest Nazarene church in Canada –the Oxford Church of the Nazarene.

Built in 1876, the old church on Main Street still stands today, though it has been blessed with renovations and additions throughout the years. In 1902, under the leadership of Rev. George E. Noble, what was then the Second Pentecostal Church of Nova Scotia was established. When the Pentecostal Church of the Nazarene was formed in 1908, the name was changed.

Nazarene - Oxford Church PastStill going strong in 2002, the Oxford Church of the Nazarene is holding its centennial celebration November 9 and 10. The year 2002 not only marks the 100-year anniversary of the Oxford Church , but 100 years of the Church of the Nazarene in Canada. Participating in the celebration will be James Diehl, general superintendent and guest speaker for the event; Bill Stewart, national director; and every Canadian district superintendent.
