
The Nurture Index is constructed from weighted indicators of the number of Sunday school officers and teachers, the number of pastoral visits reported, the VBS enrollment, the number of locally licensed ministers, the proportion of Nazarene college students who are attending Nazarene colleges, the number of CLT credits earned, and the average Sunday evening attendance.
The Nurture Index increased very slightly (0.6%) from 2006 to 2007. The general trend of this index has been down. In 2007 it was 10% below the 1980 level and 4% lower than in 1990.
In 2007 the number of Sunday school officers and teachers is down slightly (1%) from the 1980, however it was up 1% from 1990. The proportion of Nazarene campus/career youth (19-23 years old) reported by their pastors to be attending some college/university has remained steady at about 60% over the last 10 years. However, the proportion of these college-attending youth who are reported by their pastors to be attending a Nazarene college/university has declined from 40% in 1995 to 30% in 2007. Reported personal pastoral contacts in 2007 have declined 26% since 1990. The number of local licensed ministers increased 70% from 1990 to 2007.
