NYI Concert & Camp 2007
By Ricky Hurtado
January 24, 2008

Talofa lava everyone!

Samoa NYI held their annual Youth camp & concert December 13 to 17 of 2007, and it was an awesome and successful event.

About 300 Youths attended from 10 different Youth Groups from within Upolu Island as well as the neighboring islands.

13th December - A concert was held on the first night which displayed many talents that the Youths had, such as singing and dancing.  The concert was one of our objectives for our annual plan at the beginning of the year to enhance the talents of the Youths and raise the level of their performances in public places.  There were 4 categories that night—solo, duets, a cappella, and action songs.

14th December – An evangelism workshop was done in the morning.  About 70 young people attended.  Two pastors were assigned to give seminars on how to conduct discipleship training.

Vision: “Witnessing the love of God to all the non-believing Youths so that they too can be saved.”

Goals: “To make sure that the Youth of Samoa grow spiritually and physically in the Lord.”

Objectives:
•    Fast & Pray
•    Bible Study
•    Projects (e.g. plantations, fishing, handicrafts etc.)
•    Youth Programs (e.g. sharing, walkathons, picnics, sermons)

Implement:
•    Training
•    Pastors to train their Youth on how to witness etc.
•    Once a month

15th December – A sports day with obstacle races, tug of war and lots of fun games was held on Saturday.  During the evening service, Christmas carols, action songs, and skits for Christmas were performed by each Youth Group.

16th December – The morning service was held at 10am, and 80 people went up during the altar call that morning.  Baptism was then done after lunch, and 26 were baptized, which included over 90% non-members from Mormon, Methodist, and other Churches.  Praise God!  In the Evening service, conducted by South Pacific Missionary Peni Fakaua, 65 more went up to the altar call.  Later that night, they all broke up into groups and started sharing on how the camp had impacted their lives and other matters that the Youths wanted to talk about.  The night ended with a Christian film.

17th December – After cleanup and breakfast everyone went home.
Praise God for this marvelous event that helped the Youths fellowship with one another and also added new members to the Nazarene Youth Groups. We heard many wonderful testimonies of those who have been blessed during this year’s camp, and when asked what they enjoyed most about the camp, many replied, “I have met a lot of people and have many new friends”, some said that their Churches don’t have events like these and are really happy they were invited by their neighboring Churches to participate in this year’s camp.

All glory to God!!!
