Baby Day 2008 – Sermon Outline
Tell the next generation: Passing the Torch!

Bible Basis – Psalm 78:1-8

We will not hide them from their children: we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. (v.4)

Introduction:
A. From the moment of birth, babies learn from the atmosphere, actions, and attitudes around them.  Parents and teachers can bring the presence of Jesus Christ into their environment.  Babies need to develop a sense of trust in those who care for them.  This can only happen as the adults in their lives are trustworthy.  This trust is the foundation for their later trust in Jesus Christ to accept Him as their Savior.

B. The celebration of the young is really a celebration of the amazing opportunity to tell the next generation of the majesty, wonders and all consuming love of the Lord.

C. Telling the next generation of the majesty, wonders and all consuming love of the Lord, is another opportunity for us to thank and praise the Lord for all He has done for us.

D. Telling the next generation is our opportunity to pick up the torch, lit by the fire of the Spirit of the Lord, passed from generation to generation, and now placed in our care to pass into the hands of the next generation.

We will not hide from the next generation what the Lord has done for us.
A. We will not hide from the next generation what the Lord has done for us (Exodus 12:26).

B. We will not hide from the next generation the blessings we have received (Job 15:18).

C. We will not hide from the next generation what the Lord’s faithfulness means to us (Isaiah 38:19).

We will tell the next generation why we praise the Lord.
A. We tell the next generation just as Moses told the Israelites (Exodus 13:8).

B. We tell the next generation to ensure they will hear of the Lord (Psalm 22:30, Joel 1:3).

C. We tell the next generation because it is what we are commanded to do (Deuteronomy 6:7, 11:19).

We will declare to the next generation His wonders.
A.  We will declare to the next generation about His wondrous creations (Job 37:16).

B.  We will declare to the next generation with loud praises (Psalm 26:7).

C.  We will declare to the next generation all that the Lord has taught us (Psalm 71:17).

Conclusion:
As we celebrate these amazing blessings, our infants and toddlers, we are reminded how telling the next generation becomes our opportunity to praise the One who is the giver of all blessings. We are the torch bearers of the fire lit by the Spirit of the Lord, and we are called by the Lord to pass the torch to the next generation.
