Expanding Our Connections to the Community

The emphasis of this week should be to engage each Sunday School class to plan concrete ways to engage with the surrounding community. Use the following suggestions as starting points for ongoing contact between the church and the community.

• Contact neighbors of the church and ask if Sunday School groups can provide free services to them this week such as lawn maintenance/raking leaves, home repair, or car-washing. Let them know that you’re not accepting donations, but are simply wanting to connect with the church’s neighbors. Have printed cards listing the church’s contact information, Sunday School & worship service times. Include a special invitation to next week’s events. Deliver the invitations with a plate of freshly baked goods.

• Encourage youth Sunday School classes volunteer at the rescue mission or soup kitchen and connect with the people there.

• Children’s classes may prepare a few songs to sing to residents of a local nursing home who do not often have frequent contact with children. It could bring a burst of sunshine to their day.
