End the “Make the Connection with Others” emphasis with a Friendship Day celebration. As relationships have been begun and strengthened over the previous weeks, encourage members to find opportunities to invite their unchurched family, neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and friends to this special Sunday. By focusing on building relationships with others, an invitation to attend Sunday School flows out of the relationship.
• Encourage Sunday School teachers to design their Sunday School lesson plans with visitors in mind. Sunday School classes need to be open to guests by having adequate seating and supplies. Be sure the lessons don’t rely too heavily on what was learned in previous weeks.
• Host a harvest festival on Sunday evening. Use this as an opportunity to connect with guests in an informal context. Invite all Sunday morning visitors to the harvest festival. Have food and activities for all ages. (Note: in the previous weeks of this emphasis, distribute invitation flyers to this Sunday’s events: Sunday School, morning worship, and harvest festival.)
