The Board of General Superintendents recently launched a new emphasis on intercessory prayer. Dr. Jerry D. Porter, chairman of the Board of General Superintendents, states: “Together we have all committed ourselves anew to becoming intercessory prayer partners with God for all that the Lord is attempting and wanting to do in and through us.”
The Board of General Superintendents has holistically embraced the Great Commission of Jesus to “make disciples of all nations.” The general superintendents have renewed their personal covenants “to be discipled and to become disciple-multiplying disciplers.” On their behalf, Dr. Porter emphasizes, “Our mustard-seed prayers release God as we ‘stand in the gap’ on behalf of our family, congregation, community, and world.”
Each ministry within the International Headquarters (now Global Ministry Center) and Nazarene Publishing House has been invited to join in intercessory petition. Departments have set aside prayer centers, schedules, and guides and have provided a listing of global prayer requests. Participants are reporting a renewal of spiritual passion as they pray for spiritual refreshing and the needs of others.
