On, Monday, May 19, the Board of General Superintendents
(BGS) visited the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando, Florida,
site of the 2009 General Assembly and Conventions. In addition to the OCCC tour,
this unprecedented BGS visit included a driving tour of the 26 contracted hotel
properties along International Drive and a review of initial space assignments
for the various events that will take place June 24–July 3, 2009.
The
BGS anticipates that the 2009 General Assembly and Conventions will be a grand “homecoming.” As the Church of the Nazarene concludes its
Centennial
Celebration and looks ahead to the next century, the participants to the
Orlando assembly will help set the course for the Church’s mission: “To Make
Christlike Disciples in the Nations.”
The BGS is inviting Nazarenes
from around the globe to share in this historic assembly.
“We expect
this to be a great celebration,” said General Superintendent Jesse C.
Middendorf. “There will be a family focus to this event as perhaps no other
assembly has enjoyed. We are hoping to see the largest assembly in our
history.”
All hotels are within a 2.4 mile radius of the convention
center with rates ranging from $85 per night for a single/double room to $189
per night for a room which will accommodate four people. With over 4,000 room
nights, housing registration for delegates will be available mid-September upon
receipt of housing instructions. For the general public, housing will be
available November 1 via
www.gacorlando.org or the form provided in the
November/December issue of
Holiness Today.
