Trevecca Nazarene University has announced the establishment of the
Nina Griggs Gunter Leadership Fund, an endowed fund established in
order to recognize the ministry, leadership, and accomplishments of the
first female general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene and a
Trevecca alumna (1958).
Begun by the family and friends of Dr.Gunter, this fund recognizes her leadership within the Church of the
Nazarene and her example as female servant-leader. In addition to her
career in ministry, Dr.Gunter also had a career as an educator.
The
earnings from this fund will be used to support initiatives within the
university's Center for Leadership, Calling and Service:
- • The establishment of the Nina
Griggs Gunter Servant-Leader Award. Each year Trevecca will recognize a
prominent Christian woman who has been a role model of
servant-leadership and will invite her to speak at an event at
Trevecca.
• The establishment of the Nina Griggs Gunter
Servant-Leadership Scholarship that will be awarded annually to a
female student who has demonstrated servant-leadership qualities. The
recipient of this scholarship will be recognized along with the
recipient of the previously described award.
• The funding of leadership initiatives within the Center for Leadership, Calling, and Service.
In
his announcement of the Nina Griggs Gunter Leadership Fund, Trevecca
President Dan Boone said, "Trevecca is pleased to honor the lifetime of
accomplishments of Dr. Nina Gunter, who has served humankind in
significant ways in the Southeast and around the world. Her Trevecca
family members love her deeply and respect the many ways that she has
used her gifts and training to help others."
Persons who want to contribute to this fund can do so by contacting the Office of External Relations at 615-248-1355 or at
