NAZARENE EDUCATORS WORLDWIDE

 Educators Supporting Educators

The Nazarene Educators Worldwide Mission Statement:

“To embrace, encourage, and empower through a network of Christian educators”

The Nazarene Educators Worldwide Story

The Nazarene Educators Worldwide is the result of several organizations within the Church of the Nazarene. The Association of Nazarene Christian Schools arose as a grass roots response to the need for a support network for Nazarene educators and the need for fellowship and resources to strengthen their educational ministries.

The A.N.C. S. voluntarily disbanded in favor of a new denominationally sponsored organization, the Nazarene International Education Association (NIEA). The NIEA was very effective in supporting Nazarene Christian schools. The NIEA Executive Council consisted of representatives from USA/Canada Nazarene Christian schools. However, there was no representation for teachers and administrators in public schools, homeschools, college/university education departments, and our global and international schools.

In June of 2008, a task force of representatives from public schools, homeschools, international schools, college/university education departments, and Christian schools met in Kansas City to evaluate the current issues facing each of these entities. The task force recognized that most Nazarenes associated NIEA with Nazarene Christian schools. The task force made the recommendation to establish a re-structured organization with a new name to support all types of educators.

The 2008 NIEA Executive Council, the current membership, and the 2009 General Board of the Church of the Nazarene approved this recommendation.

The Nazarene Educators Worldwide Council will include two representatives for each of the following areas: childcares/preschools, public schools, homeschools, Christian schools, college/university education departments, and global and international schools.

CONFERENCES AND MISSION TRIPS

Nazarene Educators Worldwide will sponsor conferences for the purposes of networking, conducting workshops, gathering information, and fellowship opportunities. Some of the places where conferences have been held: Boston, MA; Nashville, TN; Honolulu, HI; Nampa, ID; Indianapolis, IN; Toronto, Canada; and Orlando, FL.

In 2008, this organization sponsored a mission/education trip to the country of Belize. The Christian schools raised money for school supplies for the children in Nazarene schools in Belize. A group went to Belize in November of 2008 to deliver the school supplies to the school, conduct teacher training, and to complete some work projects at the schools. Part of the team provided the wiring and hook-up for lights for one of the high schools. Most of the team painted several of the schools there. The group toured seven of the schools and enjoyed meeting the teachers and the children.

This organization plans another mission/education trip in 2011. The site will be determined soon
