Checklist for Caravan Blue and White Dinner

1. Theme

Select a theme for the Blue and White Dinner. Caravan Directions, the Caravan newsletter includes theme ideas. You may use the suggested theme or create your own.

2. Table Decorations

Centerpieces. Select and create centerpieces that reflect the dinners theme or the blue and white concept.

Cloths, plates, napkins, place cards, mint cups. Use a combination of blue and white.

Using disposable paper and plastic products will speed cleanup.

3. Room Decorations

Decorations may be simple or detailed. Suggestions:

Display tables for each class to display Caravan projects.

Demonstration areas for children to demonstrate badge skills.

Blue and White balloon bouquets or Caravan balloon bouquets.

Blue and white streamers.

4. Invitations

Design invitations in the shapes of Caravan scarves, sashes, badges, or a shape that reflects the dinner theme. Mail invitations to guests.

5. Menu

Keep the dinner simple. Here are some options.

Instruct children, with the help of a parent, to prepare a potluck dish at home.

Children arrive early to help prepare spaghetti, chili, or sandwiches and salads.

Create a salad and baked potato bar or Mexican buffet by asking children to bring designated items.

6. Program Ideas

The program should be short and entertaining. Ideas:

Parent and child talent night

Family Games

Badge Ceremony

Children recognition of people who have helped in or supported the Caravan program.

7. Cleanup

Caravaners are the host and should, therefore, cleanup after the dinner. Assign each class a specific cleanup responsibility.

8. Relating Caravan Skill Badges to the Blue and White Dinner

Guides may select badges that lend themselves to the types of things the children will do at the Blue and White Dinner. The following provides only a few of the many ways children may use badge skills for the Blue and White Dinner.

    2. Nutrition-assist in planning a balanced dinner menu
    3. Public Speaking-assist with announcements and introductions
    4. Puppets-participate in a puppet skit
    5. Cooking III-help prepare a food item

    1. Journalism-prepare a printed dinner program, prepare Blue and White Dinner announcements and a follow-up article for the church newsletter
    2. Personal Care and Development-plan and participate in a fashion show
    3. Knots-demonstrate how to tie various knots
    4. Babysitting-Prepare and distribute a "Baby-sitters Instruction Sheet" to parents
    5. Communications-Plan activities to help people understand the needs of blind and deaf individuals
