Haiti churches emphasize community development

Haiti churches emphasize community development

by | 28 Aug 2018

Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Haiti organized a community development training event for more than 50 people at the Petionville Church of the Nazarene in Port-au-Prince, 13-17 August.

The conference featured a series of workshops designed to train district leaders to develop their churches and communities during times of both growth and disaster.

They also participated in morning devotionals and nightly worship services where Mesoamerica Regional Director Carlos Sáenz preached the message.

The workshop speakers organized lessons and facilitated question and answer sessions on the following topics:

  • Disaster response
  • Project development
  • WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene)
  • Community development
  • Thinking and living out of the ordinary in leadership
  • How does the church hurt those who help?

“These leaders were satisfied with the conference and want to have that kind of activity again so that more people in the district can benefit from it,” said Emmanuel Jeannite, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries coordinator in Haiti.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
