Denomination launches global youth justice movement

Denomination launches global youth justice movement

by | 16 Jul 2015

This past week at Nazarene Youth Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, Nazarene Youth International and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries announced the launch of a new youth-focused project called The Justice Movement.

The Justice Movement, created collaboratively through NYI and NCM, is an educational, interactive event designed to engage youth and young adults worldwide in an exploration of God’s heart for justice. The theme verse is Amos 5:24: “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

The Justice Movement resources, which are free to download and will be available in five languages, include both a Bible study curriculum and event guides. The goal of The Justice Movement is to inspire and equip Christian young people to live justly as part of their Christian faith, as well as to become leaders in encouraging others within the church to do the same.

The Justice Movement will include rotating campaigns centered on specific issues, beginning with the global water crisis. The inaugural “Just Water” campaign focuses on raising awareness of the fact that 783 million people in the world lack access to clean, safe water. The campaign will also raise funds to support church-based WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) projects in South Asia and other areas.

Designed to be a youth-led global movement, The Justice Movement invites the participation of young people and churches around the world. The movement emphasizes ongoing discipleship that goes beyond a weekend event. It encourages youth to see themselves as advocates and as architects of hope in their communities and is designed to be a movement among young people who desire to see a world where justice and compassion are lived and practiced daily.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
