NNU announces renewal of contract for President David Alexander

by | 20 Mar 2015

Nampa, Idaho — The Northwest Nazarene University Board of Trustees formally offered David Alexander a renewal of his contract as university president for a four-year term. The March 6 announcement came at the end of the board's semi-annual meeting.

"The trustees of Northwest Nazarene University have affirmed the work of President David Alexander by extending his contract for another four years," said Randall Craker, chair of the Board of Trustees. "Dr. Alexander's commitment to the Christ-centered mission of NNU, his visionary leadership during changing times, and his ability, along with our outstanding faculty, to provide an exceptional educational experience, both on campus and online, are some of the key traits recognized by the governing board."

Arriving in 2008, Alexander's tenure has included some major milestones for the university in fiscal, technological, and physical growth. In March 2014, NNU received the largest gift in its history from the estate of Howard and Mary Conrad. The transformative gift exceeded $10 million in unrestricted funds.

The completion of the 56,000-sq.-ft. Leah Peterson Learning Commons provided the campus with a state-of-the-art facility for housing a 21st century library and has become the home of the NNU Doceo Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. Alexander also implemented the formation of NNU Online to expand online and technology-based delivery systems to increase the accessibility of an NNU education to all students regardless of geographic limitations.

Alexander's leadership made possible the university's centennial celebrations, including the Centennial Gala that showcased the history of NNU in the northwest and partnership with the local community over the last century. In addition to celebrating the past, during his tenure Alexander has enjoyed the university's highest enrollment and largest graduating classes.

The NNU community looks forward to the continued fulfillment of Alexander's Vision 2025 — a vision and master plan focused on increasing the impact of the university through significant campus improvements, advancement of academic programs and growth of the $33 million endowment while maintaining the university's strong financial health. Recent academic advancements include the addition of the engineering and Doctor of Philosophy programs and expanding allied health offerings with plans for a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2016.
