SNU holds inaugural Unity Service

Christians in the Oklahoma City area are poised to go beyond the prevailing culture to stand together across racial and denominational lines to help the hurting.

That was the message brought by the Rev. John Perkins, a Mississippi minister, author and social activist who visited the metro area for a series of events called “Reconciliation, Healing and Hope,” sponsored by the Butterfield Memorial Foundation.

His visit culminated Sunday with the inaugural Unity Service on the campus of Southern Nazarene University in Bethany.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
