Torrential rains along the northwest coast of South America have led to floods and mudslides over the last two months, leaving thousands homeless in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Seven of the Church of the Nazarene's districts are located in the most affected areas in Peru and Ecuador. With the support of the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, churches have helped thousands of people by delivering food kits, water, mosquito nets, medicine, mattresses, and aluminum roofing for repairs.

More assistance is needed. In Peru, more than 1 million people have been affected and three million are at risk for diseases carried by insects.

In southwest Colombia, more than 200 people were killed in a 1 April mudslide. Prayer is requested for local residents. There is no Church of the Nazarene presence in the area.

How to help

Pray

Pray for a rapid reduction in rainfall, for those who need medical care, and for the church, government agencies, and other humanitarian response organizations working to respond to this great need. Pray that God will use His Church to convey His love and hope.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
