New GMC office to facilitate fundraising activities

New GMC office to facilitate fundraising activities

by | 05 Apr 2012

In February, the Church of the Nazarene’s Board of General Superintendents announced the creation of the Office of Advancement and Development during the 89th Session of the General Board.

“The Global Ministry Center has focused on cutting expenses the past several years and now it has to think more about raising revenue,” read a BGS report. “To this end, the BGS is moving to expand this effort through the Office of Advancement under the leadership of General Superintendent Stan Toler.”

The new office is located in the denomination’s Global Ministry Center and serves as an arm of the Office of the Board of General Superintendents.

This week the board announced the appointment of Dan Schafer as executive director of the Office of Advancement and Development.

The new office is designed to facilitate the coordination and collaboration of all fundraising activities of the general church, though Schafer affirmed the responsibility of Nazarene Missions International to help raise the World Evangelism Fund and Approved Mission Specials.

"Through the years, NMI has excelled in rallying Nazarenes to invest their time, talent, and resources in reaching our world in the name of Jesus," Schafer said. "Our church would not be where we are today without the thousands of faithful individual servants of Christ who are NMI. We cannot advance to where we need to be tomorrow without the continued and valuable commitment of NMI to mobilize the necessary resources to fulfill the mission our Lord has given to our church."

The new office also aims to significantly increase field partnerships and to train missionaries and pastors in cooperation with regions, districts, and local churches. To this end, Marty Hoskins will be joining the team as director of field partnerships while continuing his leadership role with Global Mission Personnel.

In addition to Schafer’s new responsibilities as executive director of the Office of Advancement and Development, he will continue to provide leadership in the area of Global Mission Finance.

Doug Carter, senior vice president of EQUIP Leadership and founder of RMTM Strategies (Raising More Than Money), and Jamie Levy, president and director of Philanthropic Vision of JD Levy & Associates, will assist this new office by providing coaching, consulting, and guidance as needed.

Members of the Office of Advancement and Development team include:

Dr. Stan Toler, General Superintendent
Dr. E. Daniel Schafer, Executive Director
Rev. Marty Hoskins, Director of Field Partnerships
Tabita Gonzalez, Administrative Assistant
Dr. Doug Carter, EQUIP Leadership Inc., Consultant

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
