Mexico Field Nazarene Compassionate Ministries leaders and Healing Waters International announced a partnership at a joint training seminar for the Chiapas and Oaxaca Initiative, a strategy to implement water purification plants along with conducting health and hygiene talks and finance training.

Sebastian Ovando, Mexico HWI coordinator, said that the need for purified water is becoming more vital each day. Infant mortality figures indicate that the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca are where the highest rates of deaths occur annually, mainly caused by gastrointestinal diseases from consuming contaminated water.

Various Nazarene churches are in the process of starting this ministry on the South Pacific, South, South Border, Oaxaca, and Oaxaca Norponiente districts.

“We are confident that this initiative will be a great blessing to the communities where the Church of the Nazarene is located," said Edi Montejo, Mexico Field NCM coordinator. "We will see fruits of transformed lives in the name of Jesus and as a church we will help generate good hygiene. We were called to embody the needs of a world that cry out for the compassion of God’s people.”

Leaders also visited a water purification plant that began about 12 years ago at Las Granjas Church of the Nazarene.
