Retired minister and missionary Jack Hawthorne passed away 22 April. He was 92 years old.

After serving in the U.S. Navy near the end of World War II, Jack gave his life to Christ. He enrolled in Northwest Nazarene College (now University) in Nampa, Idaho, where he met and married Fairy Emerson.

Supported by Fairy's administrative and musical skills, Jack pastored several churches across the USA between 1949 and 2001. While pastoring, Jack and Fairy also trained lay people in evangelism in many different countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Eventually, Jack and Fairy took a full-time missionary role in the Caribbean, serving from 1986 to 1988.

In 2005, Fairy passed away. Jack married Lolly McGee in 2009, and she passed away in December.

Jack is survived by his and Fairy’s three children — Nancy, Steven, and Michael — and their four grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held 29 April at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Prayer is requested for the Hawthorne family.

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
